Frequently asked questions

Short, honest answers about what ClearPath does — and what it deliberately doesn't. Still stuck? Get in touch.

Getting started

What is ClearPath, exactly?

ClearPath interviews you in plain English about your business and drafts the core CMMC Level 2 paperwork from your answers: a draft System Security Plan (SSP), a draft Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&M), a live SPRS self-assessment score, and a prioritized fix-it checklist.

It is a drafting tool, not an auditor, a C3PAO, or a source of legal or compliance advice. Every document is a draft your organization reviews — and, where required, has reviewed by a qualified professional — before you submit it.

Who is it for?

Small US defense subcontractors — roughly 5–50 people, often with no dedicated IT staff (machine shops, precision manufacturers, small services firms) — who need to meet CMMC Level 2 to keep DoD contracts.

Level 1 or Level 2 — which do I need?

If your contracts involve CUI (Controlled Unclassified Information) flowed down under DFARS 252.204-7012, you need Level 2— that's what ClearPath drafts. If you handle FCI only(Federal Contract Information, not CUI), you're Level 1: run our free Level 1 checker. Level 3 is out of scope.

Do I need to know security jargon?

No. The questions are in plain English and take about an hour. The whole point is to translate "how your shop actually works" into the language an assessor expects.

Your data & CUI

Do you store our CUI?

No — and it's structural, not a promise. There are no file uploads (apart from a cosmetic logo for document covers), so there is nowhere to put CUI. ClearPath only asks about your environment, never what is in it. Please never enter CUI or contract data into any field.

What gets sent to the AI?

Document generation uses Anthropic's Claude API. Only your company profile and the relevant questionnaire answers are sent, server-side, to draft the text — never CUI. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, that data isn't used to train their models. See our Privacy Policy.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. You can schedule deletion at any time; we purge your organization and every answer after a 30-day grace period (which protects you from an accidental deletion). No lock-in, no shadow copies.

Scoring & documents

Is the SPRS score accurate?

It's calculated with the published DoD Assessment Methodology, with weights hand-verified against Annex A and a test-driven scoring engine. Defaults are conservative — anything you leave unanswered counts against you, not for you. It is an estimate of your self-assessment score; you remain responsible for the number you ultimately report in SPRS.

Does this certify that we're compliant?

No. ClearPath does not certify compliance, conduct an official assessment, or guarantee any assessment outcome. It produces drafts and a score estimate to get you organized and credible — the responsibility for accuracy and submission stays with your organization.

Can I edit the documents?

Yes. You get Word (.docx) and CSV exports that you own and can edit freely, with your logo on the cover. Every draft carries a clear disclaimer banner until you finalize it.

Billing

How much does it cost?

The Readiness plan is $79/month or $790/year (two months free), with a 14-day free trial. The full questionnaire and your live SPRS score are free either way — payment unlocks draft-document generation and exports.

Can I cancel?

Anytime, from the billing portal inside your account. Your questionnaire and live score stay available for free after you cancel.
